I came across Robyn O'Brien when Bishop first started showing signs of food allergies two years ago and I was blown away by what I learned from her. She is known as the Erin Brockovich of the food industry...a true pioneer in food allergy awareness and prevention. Robyn's book "The Unhealthy Truth: How Our Food is Making Us Sick- And What We Can Do
" rocked my world. I attribute a lot of what I've learned about the food industry to her and the relentless desire I have to know more. Like her I was pushed into wanting to know more about our food when my child began to get sick from what I was eating and he was receiving through my milk. It's no coincidence that he can eat organic corn with no problem but when he eats genetically modified corn his eczema flares up. Now I know why.
She says in this video she can't unlearn what she's learned. I can't relate to that more! Some days I wish I could drink a coke and eat a piece of non organic pizza without a care in the world or go to the movies and get a bag of popcorn and not think about it being from genetically modified corn. Not to say that I'm perfect and eat only organic. I just don't enjoy non organic food like I used to.
What I've learned has forever changed me and I can't unlearn it either but change can be good and this change was needed for the health of my family. What if Bishop's eczema which resulted in us leading a healthier lifestyle actually saved one of us from a far greater health problem? The cancer statistics are terrifying not to mention the rise of autoimmune diseases and diabetes. The center for disease control estimates that 45% of children will be on insulin in ten years. They might be the first generation that won't out live their parents! In reality a larger change is needed than just my household. Our country is in serious need of it but it's not going to happen if awareness isn't raised so please do me a favor and watch this video and share it with your friends and family.
P.S. Did I mention she has killer arms? I want biceps like that!
