Food Inc.

Tonight on NPT Food Inc. is airing.  If you haven't seen it before you need to. In my opinion everyone should watch it.  It completely changed the way I eat.  It gave me that final push that I needed. I've tried to avoid things like buying meat and dairy that have been treated with hormones for a while now but I never saw first hand what it actually does to the animal. Our drive to create things bigger, better and faster with our food supply is becoming inhuman and is in turn backfiring on us and making us sick.
The documentary will show what happens when cows who are supposed to roam free eating grass are given corn to fatten them up faster and cheaper.  A mother talks about the lose of her son to e-coli as a result of it.  The issue of GMO crops and Monsanto will be exposed.  Monsanto if you don't know is the company that created rBGH, the growth hormone that is banned in every other industrialized country but the US. The billion dollar company says that they are on a mission to stop world hungry but instead are bankrupting farmers left and right.  I won't go too deep into this issue now because the documentary explains it so well so please watch it!
Why do I care so much if you watch Food Inc.?  Because in order to make changes in our food supply  there has to be a demand for change!  How can we create demand?  By supporting local farmers, buying organic and natural products from ethical companies.  Get educated, start petitioning and letting your voice be heard! In my opinion this is where health care reform needs to start...at the root of why we're getting sick!

I really enjoyed that movie. It is definitely one everyone should see and then think over! We are so blessed to get all of our dairy and red meat from our best friends who are dairy farmers. We go through so much raw milk now, as I use it to make our butter and yogurt. Have not attempted cheese. I just started making sure that I buy organic free range chicken. It is more expensive, but if everyone did it the prices would go down. Plus I cannot fathom eating Purdue chicken or the other name brands after watching that movie. Yuck.

Tiffany your exactly right...if the demand is there prices will go down. That is great that you have some friends who are dairy farmers. I'd love to try out some raw milk!
